Best Scrap Metal Prices in Auckland

Wondering what your scrap metal is worth? The short answer is that it depends on a few key factors. Different metal types such as copper, brass, and steel all carry different values, and within each category, pricing can vary based on grade, cleanliness, and overall quality. For example, stripped copper will achieve a higher return than mixed or insulated material, and the same principle applies across all scrap categories.

At Endless, we make this process easier by offering transparent pricing lists for both our Onehunga and Wairau branches, so you can see current rates before you visit. We also provide a scrap metal calculator, available for both locations, allowing you to estimate the value of your load based on the latest pricing. These tools are regularly updated to reflect movements in global metal markets, ensuring you are working with accurate and up-to-date information.

Because pricing can differ between locations due to logistics, demand, and operating conditions, we tailor our rates to each branch. To ensure you are always getting a fair deal, we also offer a price match within the local area of each yard, whether you are visiting Onehunga in Auckland or Wairau on the North Shore. If you are unsure about your materials or want a more precise quote, our team is always available to help.

Scrap Metal Pricing Explained

If you’ve ever wondered why scrap metal prices never stay fixed, here’s the breakdown. Several variables affect what you get paid, and these are the biggest factors:

Commodity Type

All metals fall into two groups: ferrous (such as steel) and non-ferrous (such as copper, aluminium, and batteries). Non-ferrous metals are worth significantly more per kilogram. Even within that category, some metals carry a higher value than others. Copper is worth more than brass, and brass is worth more than aluminium.

Grade

Every metal type is traded in specific grades, and each grade has its own value on international markets. The grading system is more detailed than most people realise. The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) lists more than 200 grades, and copper alone has 14 different specifications. The grade you bring in directly affects the price you receive.

Weight

Scrap metal is bought and sold by weight, so we quote prices per kilogram or per tonne. In some cases, we quote per item if the average metal weight and non-metal content is already known, such as with hot water cylinders. The heavier your load, the higher your payout.

Market Conditions

We export all metals overseas to be processed into raw materials. Because most global markets trade in USD, the NZD to USD exchange rate affects the weekly prices we set. Commodity prices change constantly, so we adjust our rates to match current market value. We can’t predict future prices, but we always offer the best available rate at the time of purchase.

Shipping Costs

Freight used to have a small impact on pricing, but shipping costs have become unpredictable since the disruptions caused by Covid-19. Because of that volatility, we now factor freight costs into pricing every week.
